James Howells, an IT engineer from Newport, Wales, has lost his 12-year legal battle to recover a hard drive containing 8,000 Bitcoin—valued at over $770 million—mistakenly discarded in 2013. A judge ruled on January 9, 2025, that the case had “no realistic prospect” of success, ending a saga that has captivated the cryptocurrency world.
